Anatomy of a frame

A good frame is five decisions, not one. Scroll to take it apart.

  1. Moulding

The visible frame. Its profile, finish and width set the character of the whole piece.

  2. Glazing

Glass or acrylic that protects the surface. Non-glare options cut reflections.

  3. Mat

The board around the artwork. It gives the piece room and keeps it off the glass.

  4. Artwork

Your piece: a painting, a print, a photograph, a jersey, even a newspaper clipping.

  5. Backing

The rear board that supports the piece and closes up the frame.

How it works

From your hands to your wall

  1. Bring it in

Stop by the shop with your piece, or book a time. You do not need to know what you want yet.

  2. Try it against the samples

Hold moulding corners, mats and glazing next to the actual work and see what suits it.

  3. Take it home framed

We build the frame to your choices and let you know when it is ready to collect.
